Amazingly good Chinese food. Great service.

Formosa came highly recommended by a friend and I went in with high expectations. I had the Formosa sizzling beef which I thought was okay. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken which she felt was average at best. We each had an egg roll which we felt was also very average or maybe less. Additionally, the wait staff was borderline rude. The price of the entrees was okay, I have no complaints about that. I'm not saying that Formosa was bad, it was just not what I was expecting. It was average at best. Im still looking for one good Chinese restaurant in the Birmingham area.

Great service and food!

I tried this place for the first time in a lunch break. It is so good and at a unbearable price.

Very good and exquisite food, incredible service, very fresh and we'll made, clean and was really well kept up, nice and update facilities, incredible staff, good reasonable prices and very exciting feel when getting your exotic food choices I highly recommend it to anyone interested for sure

Great Chinese food! no buffet style the food is above average for this type. The servers are like co owners of the restuarant or that's at least how they make you feel.. they are an awesome team and the food was amazing

Exceptional experience. Came here with the team for a business meeting. All orders came out quickly and correctly. Place is clean with relaxed lunch atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Nyoman is the best waiter I've ever had. Never had to ask for a refill or to have empty plates taken. He was on top of everything from the moment we sat down. Look forward to coming back again soon.

The flavors here are excellent! It was an incredibly delicious dinner at an exceptionally great price. The waiter we had was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back!

Best Chinese food in town. I highly recommend the Mongolian Beef and Moo Shu Pork.

Beautiful place. Elegant. Formal table setting with linen and flowers. Food was hit and wonderful from the soup through the dessert then almonds. Orders from the menu came quickly and we're piping hot. Eggroll was flaky and flavorful. Meats in my entrée were tender and spicy. Rice was great too. Service was so fast. The bill for two was very reasonable. With tip we still had great meal at a good price. Great place to entertain a client. The charm is familiar.

Quite a dim entrance for such a great restaurant.

Can't find a bad think to say about the place in 29 yrs

My family has been eating at this restaurant since 1983. Each meal has been consistently delicious and beautifully presented. The service is excellent and staff is friendly and polite. The owners are always present and interested in their patrons requests. Overall I love this restaurant!

The food is okay but the service has been terrible the last few visits. The server never came to our table between the time he brought our entrees and after we were done to bring the check. I had to ask the owner for water and after 5 minutes he hadn't come by. I had to get the water myself. I asked the server if I could substitute fried rice in place of white rice and he said sure. Normally, there is only a small charge if any. They charged five dollars for what they called a large appetizer of fried rice. I did not get any other rice with my dish. I complained to the owner about the server and the rice mistake but he wouldn't reduce my bill at all. Never again.

I only get pick up, but the food is wonderful and if you get a lot, they’ll put it in a box so it’s easier to carry all of it :)

We came bc of the good reviews. We'll return bc of the food! I've never been fond of white sauce in Chinese dishes but this place knew what to do. The appetizers, family style meal, and service were all good. Another hidden little place in Hoover.

For years Formosa has been our favorite chinese cuisine restaurant. The food is ALWAYS excellent and the service has never been less than outstanding. We have been dining here for over 20 years. In fact, my husband proposed to me at Formosa on a birthday dinner date many years ago. Oh - and their hot and sour soup is the best in town!

This place has long been a favorite place to eat with my family. The staff is amazing. The food is terrific. We go there so often they know us by sight and greey us warmly.

Timeless, exquisite Chinese food. Formosa is a hidden gem in Hoover, just in front of the Dollar Theatre off Lorna Road. Their menu is expansive, with something for every taste. Outstanding, friendly courteous service and good portion sizes complete the experience of dining at this family-owned, consistently outstanding restaurant. The flavors are always a perfect blend and it is a delight to have such a great Chinese table service (though take out is just as great, too!) in the Hoover area. No buffets here—just excellent food at reasonable prices. We’ve been customers for more than 25 years and it is a delight to see that this vibrant restaurant is open again with the same family attending to its success.

I have read reviews about bad service and im not sure where everyone else is eating but we had the best service here and the food was amazing! If you pass this place up your missing out!

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant to go to with my husband. Their Peking duck is pretty good but don't take my word for it as I hadn't had duck prior to my visit here. It was our go to spot for dinner and a movie at the dollar theater across the street when my husband and I still lived in Alabama. It's never crowded so the atmosphere is always pleasant.

Best Chinese food in Hoover, AL.

This place is very clean. I had Mongolian Beef and egg drop soup. Both items were great. My husband and son praised the egg rolls. They also enjoyed their meals. The service was good. The restaurant is easy to get to from Lorna road or Rocky Ridge road. There is plenty of parking also.

Certainly a spot worth visiting, the food is great and fresh, the costs are convenient and it is consistently clean in here. Kudos.

This spot is my favorite. I eat in plenty of restaurants but to this restaurant I go the most. The stuff is very helpful and the food they cook is so fresh and tasty. I never miss an opportunity to have a good dinner in this place. I highly recommend this place.

The Formosa is a great Chinese restaurant with a unique Flavorful menu. The Mongolian beef is outstanding. I have been going To the Formosa for 20 years and was devastated when it temporarily closed 3 years ago. I try to go once a month . I am glad to see it is getting very busy again so a lot of people agree that it's the best Chinese restaurant in town.

Formosa is hands down the best Chinese in town! We eat there weekly and the food is always consistent and delicious!! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

My first time there!! Wow love it very generous portions really.. My party of 4 we all got to go boxes.. I highly recommend you try if haven't already. Moo Sho pork it was the best I've ever had. Very large portion for less than $10 .. Definitely coming back.. 5 plus stars

Been going there for years. I have moved so don’t get to go now as much. Service is always excellent. Prices are reasonable & Portions are huge. I prefer dishes in a Chinese white sauce & there’s is outstanding. To spice it up they bring me Chinese red chili paste. Probably the Best Hot & Sour Soup in B’HAM. ( Mr Lin’s in Helena may have a slight edge ) Highly Recommend !

Very good restaurant. Big portions, even for me lol. A little bit dark inside. I wish there was little more light. Also the chop sticks are to cheap for an restaurant of that quality.But food and service were great

An all time favorite in the Birmingham area with a very long history. I first ate here at the age of around 10 when they were located on the Westside. Followed them to Hoover in the 90s and still visiting to this day. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Birmingham.

Its pretty hide from the street but it was a pretty good experience food wise and service wise.

Some of the best Americanized Chinese food in the city of Hoover. This place is an institution. Definitely have a couple mixed drinks while you are there, the bartender is heavy-handed and you can't beat the drinkware. Classic tiki bar style cocktails and glasses.

Great hidden spot! Service was impeccable and food came out fast! Great hot & sour soup as well.

Nyoman is the best!! This guy is one the best servers I have ever known!!!
